Sample Sale Success

Who Doesn't LOVE a Fab Sample Sale?????

One of my favorite stylists, designers and fashion icons, Rachel Zoe had a sample sale on 5th Ave yesterday. I managed to snag the last white sequined jacket from the collection. Looks just as amazing on Rachel herself as it does in person. I'm in love.

Double Take

My Favorite vintage label, The Vintage Twin has taking NYC over, double time. They've hauled all of their most decked out, custom pieces from their warehouse in Long Island, for a trunk show on 23rd between 7th and 8th Ave.

Let me just say, seeing double was an understatement. More like seeing triple, quadruple, a zillion times more merchandise than I could have possibly thought two sisters could crank out with their team of vintage loving partners. Having only been to their small storage space in Ann Arbor, MI, I was overtaken by their amazing inventory of one of a kind vintage pieces, re-constructed and hand picked to perfection.

Literally drooling over the outrageous collection of everything from rings, bags and bows to denim, sequined jackets and dresses unlike no others. Arriving Tuesday evening, I didn't believe it when Samantha and Morgan said box upon box of unpacked merchandise had even be put out for display.

If I were you, I'd head over to The Vintage Twin Trunk show today before they had back to Long Island for the summer. One time only, two days of shopping and what seems like unlimited inventory of amazing vintage apparel.

With their website launching in September of this year, I'll be anxiously awaiting my next chance to get a look at the never ending re-worked collection that is, The Vintage Twin.

50 Shades of Grey

Okay, so maybe not 50. Close enough.
Every shade, every shape, every color and every cut.

The Bleeker Street Fair between 6th and Broadway had hundreds of vendors, and even more amazing goodies for sale. Rummaging through amazing vintage collections, drooling over designer sample sale items and (attempting) to resist food truck after food truck, I couldn't help but have a little fun with the "2 for 10 Designer Sunglasses" that were stationed at every street corner.

If dreams came true and street venders didn't have knock-offs, my "2 for 10" match up would be these two Fendi frames.

More or Less

The New York heat calls for minimal everything. Minimal sun exposure, minimal movement and minimal clothing (to a certain extent). Days when temps are in 90's my wardrobe consists of the least with the most when it comes to style.

Tanks made of cotton, lace and crochette are breathable and loose. Skirts and dresses with more fabric  have less constriction. More lip and less accessorizes balance the look. More room in my bag gives less chance for carrying unwanted layers.

Living Social

I still don’t believe that 1 in 5 married couples meet through online dating.  But, after getting picked up by reps for a virtual dating site, I’m starting to realize just how much we live online. This Monday's WWD has me convinced.

The fashion industry is taking it personal as well. Online shopping, sales and advertisements are key components in successfully expanding a brand.  After working the past three weeks at StyleOwner, a completely internet based company, I’ve seen first hand how influential e-commerce has become in today’s market.

Don’t believe it? They do.
The Tory Burch app has re-launched after a re-vamp to become more user (and buyer) friendly. Who would have thought the possibility of browsing, shopping, reading and refreshing page after page of merchandise could occur with (out) the touch of a button…i.e. the touch screen.
Company after company we see moves from storefront to space with products more tangible than ever.

W Magazine is also going viral. You may have been creating boards of your favorite designers long ago, but pinning directly from the source is fresh off the press for the mags. With their newly added “pin it” button, online browsers have access to photos from fashion shoots to street style.

It seems as though companies like Tory Burch and W Magazine are starting to realize the power of the computer. Not even that, but every cell phone, iPad, laptop and Wi-Fi device has access to the world of fashion in a whole new dimension. Both companies point out the growth and development of e-commerce in today’s fashion industry. Looks like StyleOwner is headed in the right direction. Maybe even ahead of the rest of ‘em waiting in line at checkout. Department stores….they’re so 2010.

Kim, Call Me Maybe?

Mission Accomplished! Since the moment I arrived in NYC, the top of my to-do list included visiting the Kardashian's store, DASH in SoHo. My dream of being one of the Kardashians, shuffling through the racks like the girls on "Kim and Kourtney take New York" and talking with the DASH dolls has come as close to reality as imaginable.

It may seem over-board and many could care less about the Kardashian empire that has manifested in the minds of every E! "Keep Up with the Kardashians" fan, but no matter how touristy and fan-obsessed I may seem. I'm in complete bliss after making a purchase and taking a photo outside the storefront, shopping bag in hand.

The meer experience of entering the store owned and (debatably operated) by Kim, Kourtney and Khloe themselves was not enough. I couldn't leave without purchasing a "souvenir" shall we say from DASH.
Of course, I didn't go without leaving them something as well. Chatting with one of the DASH "dolls" and leaving a note and business card, my mission was complete. Kim, call me maybe?

To Market We Go

The Union Square Farmer's Market is the largest long-running market in the state of New York and let me just said, with the amount of vendors selling everything from apples to zucchini,
I see why it continues all summer long.

With sunny skies, fresh fruits galore and stand after stand of home-made, heart-filled products I couldn't imagine a better Saturday afternoon. Not only do I love strolling the parks of New York City, but it's even more fulfilling when I get to break in a new pair of shoes at the same time.

With my collection growing, I've discovered Steve Madden to be one of my favorite shoe designers. These wooden soled platform sandals are light weight, earth toned, and walking worthy. I made it through an entire day with ease, shopping basket (and bags) in hand.

A few of my other weekend finds include:

Nude leather Sandals - Steve Madden
Camel colored draw-string pants - Aritzia
Black pleated silk pants - Modalistas
Denim colored cotton knee-length skirt - American Apparel
The most DELICIOUS pomegranate and mango frozen yogurt - 16 Handles

H&N For Style, HAVA for Shopping

My online clothing store Hava consists ALL of my favorite pieces, trending items and fashion must-haves for the season. When I'm inspired by other stylists or designers I post my thought here, in the blog. BUT taking it a step further, I also curate collections based on the things I love most in my store. You can see the items I've chosen to create the ultimate look based on the fashions, trends and styles I'm blogging about.

Take a look for yourself! See my Hava Blog and take a peek at my newest Style Recommendation for tips on how to create you very own outfit for the Savvy Shopper like me!

Age (In)appropriate

You're young, successful and beautiful: Fabulous. But age and and sex appeal are slowly shifting from mature to pre-mature. Pose, elegance, dramatization can be depicted at any age, yet promiscuity, seduction, and lust should be regulated past PG-13.

Conversation-worthy

Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada have more in common than expected. After seeing the "Impossible Conversation" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it is clear that their styles, views and influence in fashion are not only parallel but compliment each other in more than one way.

"Head up, Waist down" explains their differing focal points, but after viewing the unexpectedly paired pieces, it was clear that the similarities in themes and styles are not so conflicting.

Power, feminism, vulnerability and a new form of beauty inspire the infamous careers of both Schiaparelli and Prada in the past and present. It seems to be that the possibility of collaboration is anything but impossible.

Pack my lunch and eat it too.

Picnic in the Park. The air is fresh, the sun is warm and my lunch is packed.
Bryant Park is a beautiful setting for lounging in the freshly trimmed lawn, munching on a homemade snack and taking in the people, the nature and the atmosphere of an early summer afternoon.

Lately I've been embracing picnic attire. My latest obsessions:

Wicker handbag
Plaid anything
Floral hairpieces

Alexa Chung goes natural with a picnic basket-like Chanel handbag.
Floral infused stelletos were the roots of designer Scherer Gonzales.
Natural truely came to life in the Christian Dior couture collection.

Picnics are a traditional part of the American life. My mother grew up with her parents taken all ten kids out for Sunday picnics and I'm following my natural instinct to explore, adventure and embrace a day in the park just like the good ol' days.

Nature's Best

Weekend's Play. No work, all fun. Sunshine. Fresh air. Relaxation. Couldn't have asked for a better welcoming to the city.

A day in the park.
Some how escaping the city, in a not so far away manner.
Simple day. Simple look. All you need for a stroll through Strawberry fields, a rest in the quiet lawn or a ride from one end of Central Park to the other by carriage or coach.
